MEXICO CITY, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Guadalajara scored three goals in six first-half minutes en route to a 3-0 home win over Mazatlan in their Liga MX Clausura season opener on Sunday.

Angel Zaldivar put the hosts ahead by converting a 45th-minute penalty after he was brought down by Nestor Vidrio at Akron stadium.

Alan Torres and Alexis Vega then scored in quick succession to effectively put the result beyond doubt at halftime.

The result left Guadalajara top of the 18-team standings, ahead of Cruz Azul, Pachuca and Juarez, who also registered victories in their first matches of the season.

In other Liga MX opening-round fixtures, Pumas UNAM are due to host Toluca on Sunday and Tigres UANL will visit Santos Laguna on Tuesday.
