MEXICO CITY, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that she will discuss with visiting U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem bilateral cooperation on security issues on Friday.
"It's a meeting on coordination," the president said during her regular morning press conference, adding that the secretary will be received around 1:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).
Several Mexican ministers are also expected to attend the meeting, including Interior Minister Rosa Icela Rodriguez, Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch and Foreign Affairs Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente.
"It's not that we're going to give her a report, but it is important for her to know the results of the security cabinet," Sheinbaum said.
Friday's talks will follow up on agreements reached during an earlier meeting in Washington, D.C., between Mexican offcials -- the ministers of the navy, defense, foreign affairs, and the Attorney General -- and their U.S. counterparts.
Sheinbaum said the upcoming meeting is not related to tariffs and the April 2 deadline imposed by her U.S. counterpart Donald Trump.
Mexico's government is in negotiations with the United States in an attempt to eliminate or reduce a proposed 25 percent tariff on Mexican products that takes effect in April.
"We are working with many business sectors ... to obtain this information, and based on what they will present on April 2, we will also announce the measures, if necessary, on April 3," Sheinbaum said.
